Searching for Best Business Insurance

Alright, so in preparation for this blog and video, I researched what Google thinks the best business insurance providers are and found some not-so-surprising results. I want to share my thoughts on them here.

First, when you search for the best, the top, the cheapest, or whatever phrase is important to you regarding business insurance, you’ll likely find some names that keep popping up.

Those will likely be big insurers with massive budgets who spend a lot of money on Search Engine Optimization (SEO) or sponsored ads on Google so they are consistently at the top of the search results.

Second, the search results also returned lists that were really puzzling to me. Some lists contained big brand-name insurance companies, small niche insurance firms that didn’t offer broad-category business insurance, and some insurers that don’t even do business in New York. I thought that was weird; how did these lists get put together?

Well, some of those lists are from big media companies with teams of professional writers and SEO experts, but none I looked at had insurance experts writing those articles!

So, whether a company is on a list or spends a ton of money on SEO doesn’t necessarily make them the best. It’s arbitrary that they’re considered best or tops.

How do you define as “Best”?

So, maybe we should start by defining what you define as the best or what you’re looking for in an insurance provider.

When I speak to business owners looking for insurance, I usually hear things like:

  • They want to deal with an expert – their current provider doesn’t respond or get it.
  • They’re looking for a good price.
  • They’re looking for someone they can trust.
  • They’re looking for options.
  • They’re looking for someone to talk to and build relationships with. The whole call center and voicemail hell aren’t working for them.
  • They need someone to explain this to them.

In short, what I’m hearing a lot is related to personal connection—trust, expertise, and relationships.

What may not be said, but what I hear is that business owners want peace of mind at a reasonable cost. This personal connection is crucial in the insurance industry, as it reassures you that your needs are being understood and your business is protected. 

Would you agree with that?

So, let’s assume that if you’re looking for the best business insurance in New York, you’re really looking for an expert who can guide you to make the best decisions about what policies you need, how to craft those policies, and how to make them as affordable as possible.

Agreed?

If that’s the case, you can probably avoid going to the top-ranked search results for the best business insurance.

Why?

Most of these results are not going to be from advisors or brokers – they’re going to be big insurers or direct providers, and you’ll end up calling a call center.

Yes, they’ll take in your info and get you a quote, but it’s likely going to be just their quote as they can’t offer you any other options. And who knows if that quote is going to protect your business accurately?

Does that sound like the best option?

I don’t think so. Wouldn’t you want someone to explore different options for your business insurance to ensure you’re getting a good deal?

And, returning to the fact that you’re working with a call center, do you want to speak with someone different every time you call with a question or concern? Or would you rather have a dependable relationship with someone you speak to each time you need something?

Look, I am a New York insurance broker, so I have a built-in bias, but if you’re looking for that personal connection, multiple options to choose from, the best pricing, and a lot of what I’ve already covered here, then I think what you’re looking for is an independent agent or broker, like me.
